Title: Burn The Boat
Style: Pop, Dream Pop
Year: 2026
Olivia Cox’s “Burn The Boat” brings a fresh touch to 1980s-inspired pop, pairing a nostalgic color with a modern, organic sound. Created with producer Kaja Riedle and composer Eloise Weeks during a Jersey songwriting retreat, the track carries the focus of a song that came together quickly and naturally. Live instrumentation gives the production warmth and presence, while the final recording keeps the song polished without losing its human feel.
Cox builds the song around a relatable question: how do you know when a relationship is right? The lyrics move through doubt and hesitation before reaching a clear choice to stay and commit. The image of burning the boat gives that decision real weight, turning a private moment of acceptance into a memorable central idea. Olivia’s narrative-led writing keeps the emotion grounded, and the reflective mood suits the subject.
“Burn The Boat” is a thoughtful, well-crafted pop song that balances uncertainty with hope and shows Olivia Cox shaping her own distinctive sound.
